Call for submissions of marine photographs for exhibit and fundraiser at Museum of Monterey, benefitting the Museum and Whalefest Monterey.
The Museum of Monterey and Whalefest 2014 are calling for submissions of photographs by local artists from Monterey and Santa Cruz counties to be exhibited at the Museum (5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey) and subsequently donated to a drawing to benefit both the Museum and Whalefest Monterey.
The subject matter of the photos should be marine related in some form and be photographed locally. The prints can be any size up to 16x20 inches, black and white or color, and should be mounted on a board so they can be displayed on an easel. On the back should be the artist’s name and a brief description of the subject matter, where and when taken, and any technical details of the shot (camera model and lens used, type of film if applicable, and settings). Initial submissions of up to three photos should be made in digital form to Bob Massaro at email@example.com . Deadline for submissions is December 1, 2013. Accepted mounted prints need to be delivered to the Museum by December 13, 2013.
Up to 25 photos total will be selected by the Museum’s curators. They will be displayed on easels throughout the Museum beginning December 18, 2013 until the last day of Whalefest on January 26,2014. This period covers the final weeks of Bryant Austin’s “Beautiful Whale” and the first two weeks of the next exhibit, and Whalefest itself. Many of Whalefest’s lectures, presentations and documentary screenings will take place at the Museum on January 25 and 26. While the photos are on exhibit, patrons may purchase raffle tickets to win one or more photos of their choice by placing raffle tickets into individual receptacles for each photo. A drawing from each receptacle will be held to determine the winner of that particular photo on January 26, 2014. Winners do not need be present to win.
Step back in time! The Monterey Old Fisherman’s Wharf Association is pleased to team up with noted Monterey Bay Fisheries Historian and Author, Tim Thomas. He offers monthly “Wharf Walks” Walking Tours at Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey (www.montereywharf.com) on the first Saturday of every month from 10:00 AM – Noon. The next tour is on Saturday, December 7, 2013 and will focus on Crabbing History of the Monterey Bay. This picture reflects the artwork of Jo Mora (center) and Armin Hansen (outside) for Pop Ernest's Restaurant that flourished between 1919-1952. Tours meet at the head of Old Fisherman’s Wharf (near the pink “Harbor House” store, #1 Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey.
