PINK MARTINI - BENEFIT FOR THE HENRY MILLER LIBRARY
Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - Golden State Theatre
Portland-based Pink Martini isn't your average band. Its repertoire falls "somewhere between a 1930’s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band, and Japanese film noir. And that's just how people like it. This self-proclaimed “little orchestra,” which effortlessly draws inspiration from classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop, has sold out concert halls around the world — and now they're bringing their rivetingly unique musical pastiche to the Golden State Theater in a benefit performance for the nonprofit Henry Miller Memorial Library! The Golden State Theatre is located at 417 Alvarado just a few blocks from the Wharf. www.goldenstatetheatre.com

THE BEACH BOYS
Friday, January 22, 2016 - Golden State Theatre
You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt.
