WHARF WALKS

September 6, 2014 and on every first Saturday of the month

The Monterey Old Fisherman’s Wharf Association continues to team up with noted Monterey Bay Fisheries Historian

and author, Tim Thomas, who offers monthly “Wharf Walks” -Walking Tours at Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey

on the first Saturday of every month from 10:00 AM – Noon.  This month's tour will focus on "Squid Tales of the Monterey Peninsula." NEW! Following your Wharf Walk, enjoy a delicious  complimentary calamari appetizer - traditional style or pesto calamari - at Paluca Trattoria (located at the head of the Wharf) with your purchased entree.  Read more

5TH ANNUAL WHALEFEST MONTEREY

At Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf

On Saturday, January 24 & 25, 2015 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, the Monterey Old Fisherman's Wharf Association (www.montereywharf.com) will hold the 5th Annual WHALEFEST MONTEREY at and around Fisherman’s Wharf, 1 Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey, CA. This popular event celebrates the migration of the gray whales. It is designed to educate and inspire the public about many of the outstanding marine organizations that are involved in the Monterey Bay area and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. BOAT BUILDERS

June 6, 2014 – August 24, 2014 - Museum of Monterey - Stanton Center, 5 Custom House Plaza

Enhanced Photography, Multimedia, Video and Artifacts

The Monterey Boat Works (original building now Hopkins Marine Station) was the hub for building the fleet for the Monterey fishing industry. Angelo Siino and his sons were the master boat builders from Italy from the early 1900’s till the last boat built in 1954. Angelo’s granddaughter, Janet Martinez, has created a multimedia exhibit from old family photos and films that captures the creation of the boats and their launching into the sea. www.museumofmonterey.org

THE NATIONAL MARINE SACTUARY "CLASSIC" FISHING PHOTO CONTEST

Through Labor Day, September 1, 2014

The Classic is a free summer-long fishing and photo contest featuring all of the National Marine Sanctuaries across the United States, including Hawaii. Twenty Guy Harvey t-shirts will be given to the first 20 photos submitted each week. Each week, one photo will be selected by judges at The Sportfishing Conservancy to win the weekly prize. The weekly photo winner will be selected by the photo that best represents the theme of the Sanctuary Classic (kids fishing, family fishing, etc.) Eight $500 Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation scholarships will be awarded based on how well photos show all or a combination of: Kids Fishing, Kids and Family Values, Kids in the Outdoors, Kids in the Sanctuaries and Kids’ Conservation. www.sanctuaryclassic.org

CALL FOR MARINE PHOTOGRAPHS

TO BE DISPLAYED DURING WHALEFEST MONTEREY

The Monterey History and Art Association, Museum of Monterey-Stanton Center, Fisherman's Wharf Association and Whalefest 2015 are calling for submissions of photographs by local photographers from Monterey and Santa Cruz counties to be exhibited at the Museum (5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey) and subsequently donated to a drawing to benefit both the Museum and Whalefest Monterey. Photograph submisssions due via email by October 15, 2014. Read more
