Everyone is invited to participate in the inaugural Mother’s Day Short Essay Contest“Show Mom Some Love”, celebrating heartfelt memories and tributes to mothers.


How to Enter:

  • Write a short essay (200 words or less) sharing a favorite memory about your mom.
  • One entry per person.
  • Email your entry to [email protected] with the subject line: Wharf Mother’s Day Short Essay Contest.
  • Winners will be announced by May 17, 2025, and the winning essay may be featured on the Wharf’s social media channels.
  • Full contest guidelines and judging criteria below.
  • 1st Place: $100 in Wharf Dollars
  • 2nd Place: $50 in Wharf Dollars
  • 3rd Place: $25 in Wharf Dollars
  • Wharf Dollars may be used at any merchant on Old Fisherman’s Wharf.

    • Does the essay genuinely convey love, appreciation, or a heartfelt memory about the contestant’s mother?

    • Is the story moving, sincere, or touching?

  2. Relevance to Theme (up to 20 points)

    • Does the essay clearly reflect the theme of honoring Mom through a meaningful memory?

  3. Originality and Creativity (up to 20 points)

    • Is the memory shared unique or told in an imaginative way?

    • Does the essay show personal reflection or an unexpected perspective?

  4. Clarity and Organization (up to 10 points)

    • Is the essay easy to follow and well-structured despite its short length?

    • Are ideas expressed clearly?

  5. Grammar and Mechanics (up to 10 points)

    • Is the writing free from significant spelling or grammatical errors?

    • Does it follow basic language conventions?
